Low Cost Therapy

WELCOME!

You have reached this page because you are interested in low-cost or sliding scale therapy. Modern Therapy Seattle is thrilled to be able to offer low-cost therapy to anyone who needs it. Our low-cost or sliding scale therapy services are provided by clinical interns who are gaining experience to complete their graduate degree requirements and are not yet licensed. Interns have been educated in the latest research, have been trained in new and upcoming treatment modalities, and are skilled at working collaboratively with clients to meet their goals.

HOW IS THERAPY WITH AN INTERN DIFFERENT FROM A POST-GRADUATE LICENSED THERAPIST?

  • Interns are under several layers of supervision by licensed therapist(s). Because these interns are students in graduate school, they are supervised by case consultation instructors in their graduate program. Their work is also overseen by on-site supervisors and supported by on-site case consultation. Our Clinical Interns are currently being supervised by Haley Krenzke, MS, LMFT, CST who is a Washington State Approved Supervisor and AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate.

  • Graduate programs for counselors require that the therapy sessions be recorded for supervisors to see interns work in action, and to give guidance on therapeutic interventions and ethical considerations. Viewing takes place in a confidential space and the purpose is to provide ongoing learning support of the intern. This means you have a dedicated team of clinicians making sure you get the best care possible. Please be prepared to have your therapy sessions recorded for this purpose, unless you have extenuating circumstances that would prevent this from being possible.

  • One great benefit to working with an intern is that they are able to provide services for a lower fee from post-graduate licensed therapists and are therefore able to help a wider variety of clients in the community. Modern Therapy Seattle is proud to host interns from several different specialties, such as individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, art therapy, and sex therapy. Since our intern therapists are currently completing their graduate degree, the length of therapy will be variable; however, Modern Therapy Seattle is committed to ensuring referrals and/or options to transfer to another intern as needed.

  • Because interns are new to the field, there is a possibility that issues may arise in therapy that would be outside of their scope of practice or training. Modern Therapy Seattle reserves the right to recommend treatment with a more experienced (full fee) therapist if the issues/topics a client wants to work with would require a more specialized service provider. Additionally, our interns may or may not have the appropriate training for dating coaching clients.
