Curious About Interning With Us?
We like curious people and we are curious about you too.
At Modern Therapy Seattle, the therapy we do is deeply relational and unapologetically human. Our work includes individual therapy, relational therapy, and sex therapy. We work with people of all genders, sexualities, relationship structures, and bodies. We do this work with curiosity, care, celebration, and reverence.
Founded in the space of sex positivity, we spend a lot of time talking about identity, agency, and consent; connection and intimacy; relational conflict and repair; the impact of power; and all the messy, meaningful parts of being human.
As a practice offering both relational and sex therapy, internship learning may include exposure to conversations about sexuality, intimacy, and identity, as well as involvement in couples and relationship therapy work. This learning is held within a supportive and well-supervised environment, with space for reflection, consent, and care.
Our internship model emphasizes autonomy, trust, and supported self-direction in a relational, sex-positive clinical setting.

Internships at Modern Therapy Seattle are especially well-suited to people who enjoy self-direction and autonomy in their learning.
Our approach offers a high level of trust and flexibility, with ample supervision and support available. Interns are encouraged to take initiative, shape their clinical stance, and actively workshop how they want to show up as therapists.
This internship tends to be a strong fit for people who:
Have (or are developing) a clear sense of who they are becoming as a clinician
Thrive with self-management and autonomy
Are motivated to take ownership of their learning and clinical growth
Appreciate guidance and feedback when needed, rather than constant direction
If you’re looking for a placement with very structured, step-by-step oversight, this may not be the right fit (and we want you to find a training environment that truly supports you).

Modern Therapy Seattle primarily serves adults with a strong emphasis on relational therapy, sex therapy, and non-traditional relationship structures.
Most of our clients are:
Adults (rather than children or adolescents)
Individuals, couples, and moresomes exploring relationships, intimacy, identity, and sexuality
People in non-monogamous, queer, and/or alternative relational configurations
Clients seeking affirming, sex-positive, and relationally oriented care
Internships here are best suited to students who are interested in working with these populations and themes. Students who are most interested in working with children, adolescents, families, or highly structured manualized treatment may find a different setting to be a better fit.
-
